Musicians Benevolent Fund “Emerging Excellence Award”

We are extremely chuffed (to say the least) that Perhaps Contraption has been awarded the highest grant possible for the Musicians Benevolent Fund Emerging Excellence Award.

You can read the full press release and see other artists included in the award here…

The award will go towards funding our biggest (and most technically challenging) project ever…

We are making a video for our next single, Perambulations, and the process will be a collaboration with 3 experts of Corporeal Mime, 3 Contemporary Dancers from the People Pile and incredible Lighting Designer Anna Barrett. We are shooting in a state of the art theatre, and the piece will feature lots of intricate choreography and Lighting.

The song itself, is a pumping, relentless monster, that we are itching to unveil. (if you have seen us live recently, you will have heard this thing, nascent and loud).

Rehearsals begin in earnest this weekend, the shoot is looming.

We are very, very excited. More information soon…

Listening Bones is Out Now (to tingle your Ossicles)

Listening Bones, Perhaps Contraption’s 3rd Album, was released this week.

You grab the whole beast from here, as a download or in lovely heavy duty gatefold packaging with intricate double sided poster by Expanded Eye. You can only get this thing direct from us at gigs or through our website.

If download is more your thing, we urge you to buy it direct through our bandcamp site rather than itunes and the rest.

For one it’s cheaper (and we get a better cut of the dosh) for two, each track is embedded with a unique picture as it scrolls through your digital player of choice. A wonderful slideshow on your listening journey…

We hope your Ossicles are pleased.

p.s. the next one is already bubbling away…

One Taste Cabaret

So back in July we began an exciting new collaboration with the irrepressible One Taste Collective.

In a series of meetings and musings we constructed a framework for a new style of Cabaret with artistic director Lotan Sapir, to be unleashed upon the Secret Garden Party revellers. The result was just over an hour of startling new acts, free flowing improvisation, amazing choreography and immersive performance.

The crowd and all the crew were astounded at what we had managed to create with very little regimented rehearsal. Just a combination of the right people and the right ideas heading in the right direction…

This serendipitous collision had surely bred some magic for all involved.

So! We are excited to announce the second instalment in the One Taste Cabaret will take place this Sunday 11th November, at the Bedford, Balham…SW12 9HD.   We begin at 8:45 with new acts, new songs and orchestration, and dollops of improvisation.

Something very special is brewing…we hope to see you there.
